I was a bit scared to read this.
I bought this book after running into several folks over a ten year period that were into palyamory--having more than one lover at a time.

To be honest, I was half way between fear on this and the weariness of judging my two or three friends who were oriented this way--multiple lovers. I felt their honesty and candor and approach to sexual integrity was scoring far better (not to mention more often!) than many of my church friends, some of whom were defending to the death long dead marriages; lifeless, dry, sexless "relationships".

With Taormino's interviews of 100 plus folks in alternative relationships, a few things stood out for me from my perspective as a traditional type married and sometimes churchy guy. All of us could learn a good deal from Tristan's book on the matter of communication and honesty. The best book I've read on relationships of every kind
I have read more than my share of self help books but this is the most helpful book I have ever read. It started out slow - in the first pages I was rolling my eyes because I felt like it was simple stuff I already knew, but by page ten I was engrossed and thrilled. It is simple, straightforward, fun reading, it makes complete sense and helps clarify the issues that come up in every kind of relationship, from partners to potential partners, to family and friends. I could not put it down. I had an 'aha' every few pages, found it joyful and affirming and incredibly helpful. When I was halfway through it I bought 8 more copies and gave them to eight friends. They all loved it and have all given copies to their friends and family. I quickly saw my relationships to others and to myself start to change, I actively used the theories to improve my dynamics with others and one day read just one sentence and completely let go of some pain I'd been carrying for days over a conflict...

Overdue and universally applicable
This book really isn't just for women, and it really isn't just about relationships. True, it focuses on empowering women to say "Hey, I'm worth more than this and I'm not going to settle" which is a wonderful thing to realize, but it really goes beyond relationships. We are conditioned to work hard (and, as an unfortunate side effect, suffer) for everything in life - jobs, material possessions, etc - and when love or money or other things we want don't come to us, it's easier emotionally to justify and/or make excuses as to why we're not getting what we feel we deserve when we want it. Whether it's the attention of a man (or woman) or a promotion at work, the power of this book is that it tells you in no uncertain terms that YOU are the only one who will suffer if you continue to cling to something that wasn't meant to be.

The authors have really stumbled on to something good here - what I took away from this book and will continue to remember is that life is too short...

I am a lady in waiting...
I read Lady in Waiting several years ago while still in my early teens. I have refered back to it many times since then trying to grow my relationship with the Lord while I wait on my future husband. I agree that our ultimate goal is to be satisfied completely with Christ and His cross, but that is something we as humans won't be able to completely attain until we are in Heaven with Christ. Strive for contentedness yes, and find your significance in Him, but it's ok to long for a husband. Don't dwell on it, but to deny and ignore the longings of your heart to me is almost like denying and ingnoring the One who placed them there in the first place.

In short, this is a great read and a great example of how to mold your life after the One who gave you life. Strive for holiness, but rely on the One who is holy to make you holy, and wait on His timing for your future husband, He will send him when you both are ready.

Decent book, but not 101 positions
This book is informative, but don't expect 101 positions. The book has many variations of the same position, which gives it the 101 positions. I was a little disappointed, as there really wasn't anything I wasn't expecting to see in terms of positions that I wasn't aware of. But all in all, if your in a funk and need a memory jogger this is a good book with good pictures demonstrating the positions without being smutty feeling. The pictures allow you to thoroughly grasp the positions without focusing on the male and female organs that would take away from the real intent of the book.

This book is one of the best I have read - whether secular or spiritual - on relationships and intimacy. Shmuley incorporates humor into topics that are intimate and touch the soul. For those who are believers, this book really helps to focus on the analogy between our relationship with God, and our relationship with our soulmate. He makes his case well, but could have illustrated his points with more detailed examples from his own life and those of others. Just a few detailed anecdotes in thr right places would have helped.

The book will not engage those who are definitely opposed to Christian doctrine, but should strike a chord with teens who have grown up Christian and are struggling with the values of the world.
